‘Trick or Treat Under the Sea’ Returns for the 9th Year at North Carolina’s Aquarium

Many theme parks, thrill parks and local attractions amp up for the Haunt season by marketing such events as the Universal Halloween Horror Nights, Bush Garden’s Howl-O-Scream, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween PArty, and even parks like Sea World’s Halloween Spooktacular. This also rings true for local Zoos, Amusement Parks and Museums.

Well if you head on down to North Carolina this Halloween season the very popular North Carolina Aquarium, on Roanoke Island, is hosting its popular attractrion, currently celebrating Nine Years, TRICK OR TREAT UNDER THE SEA.

Kicking off on Thursday, October 27 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm it is set to be hosted by Count Sharkula.

There will be a Halloween Scream Contest, Crafts for the Kids and Vendors and Businesses from the are will be handing out that Ghoulish Candy to the Trick Or Treaters.

You can get your advance tickets, which we suggest since tickets will not be available at the door, the night of the event. You can get the advance tickets for $6.00 per person and it often sells out for the event! So get yours quick. If you purchase advance tickets you can pick them up anytime after October 3rd. SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular Ready for 2011 with ‘FantaSea’

Each year Sea World gets into the Halloween mood like many of the Orlando theme parks do. As with Walt Disney World, they gear more towards family fun and focus on the children.

This year Sea World is kicking off the Spooktacular with Trick or Treating, Spooky Silly Shows, Halloween Dancing, and Children Halloween Arts and Crafts.

In 2011, the Halloween Spooktacusic, will include:
The NEW Penelope’s Party Zone: This is where the underwater environment gets children’s minds wondering with kid friendly music, games and all the Halloween Characters you could ask for. It is located at SeaWorld’s Bayside area and the zone will have guests dancing as well with a live DJ on hand, with Pumpkin Fish, Bubbles galore and non-stop fun.

Next up is the NEW Apple Decorating Post where Children and their Parents can create and decorate their own Halloween Tasty treat. The apples can be dipped for an extra fee with white chocolate, fudge, or caramel, and then topped with sprinkles.

And finally no SeaWorld Spooktacular would be complete without the Sesame Street’s Countdown to Halloween Show! This annual show is where Count Van Count is on a quest to find Elmo, Zoe, Telly and all his other friends to countdown to Halloween. The live stage show is one of the most popular shows during the Spooktacular and along the way you will have music, fun and dancing skeletons.

The 2011 SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular is every weekend in October including 1, 2, 8, 9 15, 16, 22, 23 and the 28-30. The events begin at Noon each day and go until 8PM.

Ashland, Oregon Cancels Halloween Parade and Offers a Re-Worked Event Instead

Haunt Industry News can sometimes be happy or sad. We recently discussed the York, PA Halloween Parade possibly ending its’ run of over 62 years. And now we have caught wind of another ending its fun Halloween Romp, this time at the opposite end of the United States in Ashland, Oregon.

This year there will be no ghouls, ghosts, floats or spooky characters parading around town due to the Ashland Chamber of Commerce.

In today’s society everyone is trying to be politically correct and more and in trying to keep the town in a family friendly atmosphere for Halloween, and is cancelling the Annual Halloween Parade, and adding in new Bands, Photo Ops, Storytelling and other Halloween Goodies up and down East Main Street.

This came as a surprise so close to Halloween as it was announced this week that the parade was to focus back on the children, the young kids, and bring the families back to the roots of the parade’s origins. The East Main Street in downtown will still close as planned, but with these new additions to re-brand in a way, a Halloween event in Ashland.

There will be Trick or Treating to Businesses, Storytelling, Photo Ops with creepy ghouls and more. The area streets will be shut down from 3pm to 4:30pm on Halloween for this new, but old Halloween Celebration. Businesses are encouraged to participate and will display an Orange Pumpkin in their shop window to let the families know that Trick or Treating is happening at the store.

Every since the early days of OTR (Old Time Radio), the Trick or Treat for UNICEF has been a great campaign to raise funds for the non profit organization.

Each year they announce an ambassador to bring awareness to the cause. This year they have brought on one of Hollywood’s beauties in Heidi Klum. Heidi has been announced as the 2011 UNICEF Ambassador. She will be the spokesperson for the FIRST EVER Online Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF Costume Party!

Halloween Night Marks the Night of the 7 Billionth Person to be Born

Halloween brings all kinds of fun, mystery, fright and more. And this year it brings an extra treat as reported by the United States Census Bureau, that right now there are 6,959,000,772 people in the world and we are drawing near to the 7 billion mark.

It is projected that, that person will be born on Halloween and likely to be in China or India. This is according to the United Nations population division.

If it is true, than all the frighten people out there will think this could be Damien, the Omen, and a call to the end of days. I say its just plain luck. But it would be fun to go around the rest of your life and say…’Hey, I was the 7 Billionth Person ever to be born.’

If this projection is true, then within the next 90 years the world could reach almost 10 Billion People, Tripling the Numbers! India alone has a population of 1.2 Billion and it is the most populated place on earth.

Haunted Housekeeping with Roseanne

Greetings Deadites.  We all know that it’s never too early (or too late) to watch some Halloween-themed TV shows, and as I was sifting through the endless hours of downright crum-crapto programs clogging the airwaves, I found a classic gem bouncing around in space that deserves a quick shout.

Roseanne Halloween Treats

Most of us are probably familiar with the sitcom Roseanne that ran from the late 80s to mid-90s, and I’m sure that many Deadites know that the annual Halloween shows became as iconic as The Simpsons‘ “Treehouse of Horror” specials.  For those Halloween junkies out there, though, who have not seen those episodes, perhaps because they didn’t grow up with the show or maybe because they didn’t particularly care for the sitcom in general, those Halloween-themed episodes are definitely worth a watch.  There was clearly a deep-rooted love of the Halloween season among the show’s writers and creators, and each of those episodes was crafted with even more love and attention than the more mainstream “Christmas” episodes that would have been featured on the traditional sitcoms.   The detailed sets and original costume designs, combined with the edgy humor of the show, created a memorable collection of Halloween tributes.  My favorite is the earliest one (“BOO!”) that showcases the family’s impressive home haunt and serves as a reminder that you don’t always need the most expensive equipment or technology to create an effective experience.  

If you have Netflix, you can stream these all now.  Or you could pick up the brand new Roseanne: Tricks & Treats Halloween collection DVD scheduled for release Sept. 27.  The 8 episodes to be on the lookout for are:

Again featuring a home haunt and some impressive makeup and costuming, it’s clear that this show also harbors a fondness for the holiday and serves as another reassurance that a love for the holiday, NOT deep pockets, is the key to crafting a memorable experience.
