Friday the 13th Reboot Insights

August 4, 2008 Horror No Comments

The Friday the 13th Remake is approaching soon and with that comes alot of discussion on is this a good idea, why remake a classic?

I myself have asked that over and over in a world of horror remakes. Some have been outstanding while others has tanked and will be easily forgotten. Now I was feeling the same about the Friday remake but once I saw the teaser that previewed at Comic Con I am a bit excited about it. That brings me to a great article I read about how it is a reboot inspired by the original parts 1-4 and keeping with Camp Crystal Lake as the setting.

I like the idea of using the Sack still from part 2 and keeping the iconic mask that was introduced in part 3. I think alot of effort has been put into this reboot of the franchise and we will see. I still will always be fond of Mrs. Voorhees as the killer in part one, but hey, I am open minded enough to give this film a moment.

Be sure to read the whole article here.

House of 1000 Muppets Coming Soon?

So in all the fun hype of making your own trailers, videos and so on you see many out there that completely suck. Well, this one had me rolling for a while. The editing is good, the cut selections are great, and the way the Muppets voices really work with it is too funny. The only thing is the voice over at the very very very end.

But rock on…and take a moment to laugh. AND LET’S NOT FORGET DR. TEETH AS SID HAIG!!! CLASSIC!

Music Video Features SPFX Masks

The fantastically detailed and realistic masks over at SPFX MASKS have been featured in many areas in hollywood like Hollows Point, Re-Vamped and soon on Criss Angel’s Mindfreak and within the Haunt Industry in a variety of haunted attractions, videos and even here on Rotting Flesh Radio where we even gave away a mask!

Well with the Haunt and Horror season well on the way you can now see SPFX Masks featured in a brand new music video. I do have to say, the team over at SPFX have done it again and it goes to show that the realism on these masks look awesome on film. Enjoy.

Bloody Birthday Wishes Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

As we draw closer to the Haunt and Halloween Season, some Haunts opened their doors for the first time this last weekend and what would Halloween or Haunting be without our beloved MISTRESS OF THE DARK, ELVIRA. Today markes the Bloody Birthday of the Scream Queen as she was born on September 17th. We will keep the year quiet since she will live in our morbid little hearts forever.

Many of you remember the Mistress from her horror host days, the feature films, and her on-going presence in throughout the 1980s and 1990s. There was a time when you would see ELVIRA everywhere, from beer, pinball machines, commercials, you name it.

So it is because you have helped warp my sick little mind over these year to the Rotting Flesh Radio Deadite I am, I want to wish you a BLOODY BIRTHDAY from ROTTING FLESH RADIO.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween Post-Review

September 4, 2007 Horror, Rotting Flesh Radio 1 Comment

Well, we hit up the premiere of the film over the weekend and we will have an in-depth look at it this week on the show…but here is some thoughts I had to come to terms with.

I went to the film with an open mind and clean slate. Coming from liking both Devils and House I expected something fresh and new to the franchise. But Rob has proven to have no talent as a film maker.

The backstory did to Myers what it did to Vader, made them less scary, less sinister and made you laugh at them at times. The films cinematography was horrible. Too many camera styles, the sections to the film were very hard cut and didn’t mesh well and if you are going to take the time to develop a backstory, do it fully. Okay he had a bad homelife, we get that, but there was no developement as to why we care how he devloped into the shape. I mean, come on, there was no character developemnt as to why the urge to kill, what was going through his mind etc. At one point loomis says “i thought we had no secrets you and I” well how would we know that because you never developed the character. We don’t care.

Loomis’ character didn’t even need to be in the movie. The first 20 min. of the film, okay we get it, bad home life. But the scene kept going and going and going. Sherri moon is the worst actress alive and to me it seemed like Rob was trying to capture an era (70s) and set the tone of that feel more than worry about creating a great story, or pushing the film forward.

When it comes to the later half of the film the (remake) it really went down hill. It was borderline exploitation film and gore for the sake of gore. You didn’t care that anyone was getting killed, or why they were. Also if you spend a so called half of the film developing a backstory, then when he finally gets released to kill, explain that. So many open holes in this film its crazy. The teenage girls seemed like 20 somethings trying waaaaay too hard to sound like suburban high schoolers.

now the cast….Adam Sandler and others use friends in films, the main thing though is it is a few friends. I mean come on, I want to find everyone a part who is my friend and I will write 5 lines of verbage so they can have a sweet signature line for the soundtrack and one liners. Idiodic.

Man, so much more for me to go into, but I won’t. I was all about this film. Was waiting for it and everything. I thought it would re-invent the franchise like Batman Begins did to that franchise. What I learned is, Myers is from a bad home life, its a twisted kid killing, his mim was a dancer, his step dad was a prick, and he liked to make masks.

If Resurrection was the demise of the franchise, this one is final nail to it. Rob is a one trick pony. Let’sall wipe our eyes from the null void of lackluster horror and poor story telling and pretend it was all because of the Druids.

(I will say though, there was some good to it and we will explore the good during this friday’s show)
