How would Freddy Spend Halloween Night? FIND OUT in Freddy’s Trick or Treat!

October 28, 2009 Halloween, Horror No Comments

Back in the 80s there was an anthology TV Series called Freddy’s Nightmares: A Nightmare on Elm Street The Series. Now even though Freddy Krueger himself rarely made an appearance on the series, there were those few instances that made watching it Morbidly Awesome!

One, Two, Freddy’s Coming For You….

From Creepy to Kooky & Making Green Acres the Place to be: VIC MIZZY Passes on at 93

Vic Mizzy’s music can be heard everywhere, from Classic TV Shows, to Ringtones Currently. And most of all he is recognized for his memorable scores from The Addams Family, and he made Green Acres the place to be!

Well it has been released that famed writer Vic Mizzy has passed away on Monday at the wonderful age of 93. His long lost art of television theme songs was his niche, and most of all, many of his songs were catchy, memorable and and had a high influence on jazz and pop culture to them. Mizzy knew the secret to TV Show Writing, and that was make the song memorable, so people would sing it after the fact, or realize while washing dishes, my show is on.

Mostly known for Green Acres and The Addams Family, Mizzy recorded the theme for Addams using his own voice and then overdubbed it three consecutive times. He was actually the musical playing the Harpsichord as well in the catchy tune.

So in remembering the Golden Age of Television Theme Songs, and that Long lost Art, here’s to you Vic Mizzy, you were one of the best.

1977’s Halloween Special w/ The Addams Family

October 5, 2009 Halloween, Horror 1 Comment

The Addams Family is a cult phenom. Everyone loves it, many grew up with it and we all adore it. Even with the success of the films in the 1990s, it has grown to be loved from one generation to the next.

Well, back in 1977, there was an attempt to bring back the original cast of the Addams crew with a Halloween Special, Halloween with the New Addams Family. It had an all-new intro, and it was even shot in color. Something was just a little off to me. I think the fact it was in color. It lost something. Anyhow, it can be much sought after for collector’s much like the Star Wars Christmas Special.

The special was based around Gomez’s long- lost brother, Pancho who comes to visit just as Gomez is off to Tombstone Arizona for a lodge meeting. It seems Pancho once courted Morticia and Gomez is jealous.
Gomez has actually been fooled by crooks who have their hearts set on stealing the family fortune. They immediately set about trying to find the fortune.

The crooks do not easily give up however, And concoct a plan to use a Fake Gomez and Morticia to fool the family. Two bikini clad musclemen are hired on as henchmen. The criminals enter the families’ Halloween party as “John Quincy Addams and Family”.

As The real Gomez returns in time for the Halloween festivities, the crooks tie him and Morticia up. In the end the police arrive, the crooks willingly give themselves up, go figure. The Addams Family is left to celebrate the Halloween holiday together.

Many of the plot lines can be seen as re-created for some of the popular movies from the 90s. So to celebrate Halloween enjoy a lost gem.

For Halloween as we start our normal day of news here on the site and on the weekly RFR. We figured let’s kick off the day with a Target throwback commercial for Halloween. They just don’t make ‘em like this anymore. I love the pop style artwork, very Shag inspired in look and feel.

Scare Kingdom: UK’s Newest Halloween Scare Park

September 18, 2009 Halloween, Haunt Industry, News No Comments

‘Scare Kingdom Scream Park’, the UK’s newest Halloween scare entertainment venue will open in October 2009. Hosted at Hawkshaw Farm Park, on the A59 between Blackburn and Preston, it has been developed and produced by ‘AtmosFEAR! Scare Attractions’ – the UK leaders in independent location based scare entertainment.

Following the sell out success story of last years ‘HEX in the Harvest’, hosted at the same venue last Halloween, AtmosFEAR!, lead by TV presenter and author Jason Karl, have been working on Scare Kingdom for the past 10 months, and have stepped up the fright factor for 2009 with new special effects, more live actors and even more terrifying attractions for thrill seekers and families!

PREPARE TO BE SCARED!

During the October half term, Scare Kingdom opens daily and delivers Halloween fun with everyone in mind.

For children under 10 – ‘Hubble Bubble: A Spellbinding Trick or Treat’ is a 45 minute interactive theatrical experience. Featuring songs and games that will enthral youngsters, friendly witch sisters ‘Toil and Trouble’ will cook up a spell to keep everyone entertained. After the show, why not try and navigate the ‘Wicked Witches Corn Maze’?

At night the Kingdom comes alive with two headlining terrifying scare attractions that will leave guests screaming for more!

For families and young adults – ‘Dead Alive: Legend of the Pumpkin Man’ – amid the 8 acres of rotting mist covered cornfields lay the ruins of Strangleweed Hollow, in its day a booming town where many made their fortunes during the gold rush. Now nothing more than a ghost town… This 40 minute fright fest begins at Mother Strange’s old decaying farmhouse, here she waits, night after night still longing for her long lost son who disappeared into the fields so long ago – the Pumpkin Man!

For thrill seekers and families – ‘Blood Bath; the Mad Doctor will see YOU now!’ – in the heart of a derelict war bunker, long since forgotten, a diabolical doctor – Cornelius Van Der Blood, has set up his secret blood soaked chamber. Evicted from Gaunt Hill Asylum under a cloud of accusations and rumours of unspeakable deeds, he is now continuing his bizarre and twisted experiments deep underground, away from prying eyes, where the screams of his ‘patients’ cannot be heard…

In addition to the headlining attractions, Scare Kingdom will offer a variety of additional attractions designed to ensure guests have an experience to remember; ‘Sir Scare-a-Lot’ – imported from the USA especially for Scare Kingdom, this impressive projection special effect is a speaking statue that delivers grave advice with a sinister sneer. ‘Moaning Mordred’ – entombed inside his ivy clad tomb, Mordred whispers twisted tales and ghoulish gags for guests to listen too while they eat. ‘Street Theatre’ – come face to face with the Undead Court as King Morbius and his legion of frightening fiends roam the dark pathways of Scare Kingdom each night. ‘Frightful Photography’ – have your photograph taken with our creepy character as a scary souvenir.

Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy

In many of our working partnerships here at RFR, we has joined up with the Festival of Fiends as the Official Podcast of the event. And with that began our friendship with Director of Photography Vet, Fiends Organizer and more, Bill Philputt. Bill has let us in on the newest, and might I add I am EAGERLY awaiting this one, project. Enjoy Deadites, and we will keep you posted as it develops and we will have the project creators on Rotting Flesh Radio soon. You can also currently find our previous Robert Englund interview on RFR here: RFR Rewind w/Robert Englund and we will be posting Heather’s appearance on RFR in the future in more RFR Rewind Posts.

“Members of the creative team behind the hit documentary His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th have joined forces once again to bring horror fans the ultimate tribute to yet another landmark slasher series, A Nightmare on Elm Street. Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy officially began lensing on August 22, 2009 in and around Los Angeles. Starring and narrated by Heather Langenkamp, star of the 1984 classic A Nightmare on Elm Street and two of its sequels (1986’s Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and 1994’s Wes Craven’s New Nightmare), this thrilling 90-minute retrospective promises to be the definitive look at the making of the iconic horror series and the enduring legacy of its wise-cracking, razor-gloved villain: the indefatigable “bastard son of a hundred maniacs” known as Freddy Krueger.

For a quarter century, Freddy has slashed his way through the nightmares of two generations of movie-goers in one of the most artful, spectacular and terrifying film franchises in motion picture history. To characterize the Nightmare on Elm Street series as a modern cultural phenomenon would be a gross understatement. To date, the eight (soon to be nine) Elm Street films have scared up well over half a billion dollars in box office receipts in the U.S. alone, launching the careers of such Hollywood luminaries as Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2), Patricia Arquette (“Medium”), Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential) and even Johnny Depp.

Little did Freddy’s “father,” veteran writer/director Wes Craven, know that his terrifying, child-killing creation would go on to become a cult hero and spawn his very own cottage industry. Today, Freddy is practically a household name, with his burned visage, trademark fedora and red and green sweater appearing on everything from T-shirts to video games to action figures to comic books (Freddy was even the star of his own weekly television series!). It’s safe to say that Freddy Krueger may never rest in peace – nor should he, since his fans keep clamoring for more. Even Newsweek called him, “The most popular cinematic maniac since Darth Vader.”

“Freddy is like the ‘unholy spirit’ in the trinity of modern monsters alongside Jason from Friday the 13th and Michael Myers from Halloween,” says co-director and producer Daniel Farrands, who previously helmed the hit documentary His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th and produced the 2009 Deluxe Editions of the Friday the 13th films for Paramount Home Entertainment. A veteran of the horror genre, Farrands most recently served as a producer of the hit supernatural thriller The Haunting in Connecticut, which has grossed nearly $80 million worldwide. “Freddy and the Nightmare films are icons of our generation, and our documentary will revisit the franchise in an exciting new way that will be respectful to the fans and to the films themselves,” assures Farrands.

Co-director and editor Andrew Kasch (Thirsty) concurs: “The Nightmare series has long been regarded as the most high-brow and creative of the mega horror franchises, so our goal is to make a film that reflects those qualities. While His Name Was Jason was campy and off-the-wall, this documentary will offer a serious chronological account of the creative process – the hardships and triumphs behind one of Hollywood’s most iconic characters. Above all else, this is not a fluff or promotional piece for the upcoming remake but rather will focus on the original series of films that began with Wes Craven’s 1984 classic.”

“The Nightmare franchise has had such a huge impact on the genre and its fans, and is truly an important piece of horror history,” adds producer/co-writer Thommy Hutson (His Name Was Jason, Prank). “These films proved that horror could be both terrifying and dramatic, thrilling and groundbreaking. And that’s why we’re so thrilled to bring fans an extensive behind-the-scenes look into Freddy Krueger’s hallucinogenic world like never before. It’s a way of paying tribute to Wes Craven’s original vision which has inspired so many of us … and given us a few really good nightmares, too.”

In addition to the exhaustive feature-length documentary, the two-disc DVD release of Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy will feature over four hours of nightmare-inducing extras, including the original documentary I Am Nancy, written, produced and directed by star Heather Langenkamp which looks back at the last 25 years since her debut as heroine Nancy Thompson and examines the impact of the Elm Street films on young people’s lives.

Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy will be released in the Spring of 2010.” In addition to the above mentioned talent, Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy will be written by David Rosiak, with Buz “Danger” Wallick serving as director of photography, and Bill Philputt, Steve “Uncle Creepy” Barton co-producing.

For more on this project check out the official Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy when it launches this Friday, the official Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy MySpace page, and finally Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy Facebook page.

For Wiz-tober Disney Offers “Call In Your Haunt!”

September 1, 2009 Halloween, News No Comments

If you are a parent, you miss the good old days of Halloween programming during the season. And it’s harder and harder to pass down that tradition to your children every year. Well, Disney Channel does not disappoint. Now, it may not be the programming RFR is going to queue up to kick off the Halloween Season, but if you are like some of us here at the show, then you have children you want to enjoy Halloween with.

Wiztober returns for the second year in 2009, with new Halloween and wizard-themed programming lineup hosted by the stars of the Emmy-nominated hit series “Wizards of Waverly Place”. The show is most known for its pop diva princess, who is gaining the steam of Hannah Montana, Selena Gomez. The month is in the Halloween Spirit as Season Three premieres of “Wizards of Waverly Place” on Friday, October 9th. And even if you are more in to gore, horror and such, remember your children and last year’s Wiztober delivered TV’s No. 1 rank in Total Day among Tweens 9-14.

“Wiz-tober” kicks off with a special encore presentation of “Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie” and follows quickly with other favorites like “Halloweentown” and “Twitches”, along with their respective sequels to follow. There is going to be non other than Harry Potter popping in and out all month long and for those of you parents who have Tween Daughters, cover your ears, because there will be a Special Halloween Edition of Jonas. Many of Disney Channel’s series will get spooky episode makeovers like “The Suite Life On Deck” and “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Now here is where it gets fun for us in the Haunt Industry as parent to teach our children the importance of effects. I expect alot from those Ambient Haunt Musicians kids. Beginning September 16, your kids and go to DisneyChannel.com and print out instructions for “Call in Your Haunt,” where fans can record their own spooky haunted house sound effects. Select entries can be heard online in the Wizards of Waverly Place Haunted House, and will air on Disney Channel during the programming event.

Now as this may not be right up your ally, and you are more of a Freddy guy as myself, here in the Morgue, think about your kids and this is one way to “KEEP HALLOWEEN ALIVE” with new programming to pass it on to them every year.
