Marketing Your Haunted Attraction with Digging Your Graveyard

by: RFR Casket Crew Cheri

Hey there Deadites, Cheri here,

Rotting Flesh Radio's Marketing Segment 'Digging your Graveyard' Back This Month

Rotting Flesh Radio's Marketing Segment 'Digging your Graveyard' Back This Month

One thing that every haunt has to think of is marketing your haunted attraction. This is from all aspects of marketing from flyers, to commerical time, web banners, television appearances, social media, street teams, outdoor boards and more.

Many haunt owners tend to think of these things when it gets closer to the season. You are busy with your event. Getting rooms completed, last minute items in from vendors and getting actors and production teams in place. It is understandable why you wait, although shouldn’t.

Marketing is a key factor into your haunt’s success. It is marketing that is going to get those customers in the door so you can continue to play each and every haunt season. And with that said we always have you covered at Rotting Flesh Radio with education, interviews and our monthly segment DIGGING YOUR GRAVEYARD: Haunted Attraction Marketing.

In this monthly segment we bring you key tips and tricks to market your event. Last month we brought you an in-depth interview with Storm of Trails To Terror in Wakefield, RI. Storm covered some great key points from social media to preparing media in your area.

Now it is time to ask you Deadites. As a Haunt Owner, an Event Planner, Haunt Director, Manager and so forth what would you like to learn more about in Haunt Marketing. Digging Your Graveyard will be out this month. What do you want to know about marketing your haunted attraction, hayride, or event? Email me at: cheri@rfrpodcast.com so we can tackle the information you want to learn about. I look forward to hearing from you Deadites.

Until then Sit Back, Relax and Rot Away…

Midwest Haunters Convention 2011 Was a Blast!

Greetings Deadites,

Well, sadly the weekend is over. All good things must come to an end.  Midwest Haunters Convention was everything I hoped it would be.  I wish I had made it for the pre-haunt tour, but we’ll have next year. rolled in Saturday morning and the fun started.  The tradeshow floor isn’t as big as Transworld, but the interactivity with vendors plus the cash and carry options were great!

I had to stop by Von Charon Productions to visit my friends Anita and Tom, Stopped next door to visit Tom Devlin of 1313Fx ( LISTEN TO TOM ON RFR AT HAuNTcon 2011) and I picked up 3 new masks for the collection.

I made my way around the floor, meeting with RFR Casket Crew members Jackie, Jerry Vayne, Katie Lane, Storm and Badger.  Made new friends in Matt, from Skeletons and More, Ashley Whetsel and Marne Boyd at Dreamscape Studios, Charles Terry at Haunt Apps.

Skeletons and More

Then it was off the be the guinea pig, I mean assistant, for Badger during his Boo Camp Seminar.

We had a pretty full house and I found Badger entertaining and instructive, so for you haunt owners out there that need actor training, book him now, slots are filling up fast.

As the show floor wrapped up that evening it was off for some dinner before the Masquerade Ball.  Went with several other people to a brew pub down the street from the hotel.  The food was awesome, but the service sucked, and we were there way too long, and I still had makeup to get done.  finally got the party around 9:30 and everything was hopping.  The level of the costuming was a sight to behold with many very creative designs, that only passionate haunters could come up with.

We cheered for Jackie during the Miss Scary Midwest, and even though she didn’t win she’s still tops in our book.  the party went late and shifted over to the Zombie Army bus.

Sunday found us wandering around bleery eyed, with coffee in hand, watching other people staggering in with bloodshot eyes.  Had a meeting  with Badger, Allen Hopps, and Michele Arroyo around 11:30, details later…after some casket crew photos, is was time to head back to the scare-actor lair.  For my first MHC, I was not dissapointed at all, I met some great people and had a great time. I can’t wait til next year Deadites!

So Sit Back, Relax and Rot Away….and Remember one thing Deadites,

Everyone……………..is afraid of something.

Spies in the Haunt Industry!

by: RFR Casket Crew Storm
Greetings Deadites! The big story in the news recently has been the seemingly normal middle class Americans who turned out to be Russian spies that have been infiltrating all aspects of American life for decades to learn the secret recopies for Coke and the 11 herbs and spices of KFC or something. This got me to thinking if there are any haunt actors who are actually Russian spies. Here might be a few ways to tell.

Instead of Frankenstein or the Wolfman, they have Rasputin tattoo on their leg.

They keep asking if there are any real nuclear warheads in the 3D Toxic Waste scene.

They reminisce about the old days when a good night Trick-or-Treating resulted in a bag full of biscuits and borsht.

Somehow they managed to distill Vodka using only items they found in the makeup room.

They keep asking if actors need to shovel the snow out of their scenes when the big mid October blizzard comes through.

If you connect the dots between their body piercings it spells out “Putin Rulz!”

They actually understand what the hell is going on in the Nightwatch and Daywatch movies.

There are listening devices in all your prop skeletons.

Their dream is to open the world’s largest Faberge Haunt.

So until next time Deadites, watch out for the spies and Sit Back, Relax and Rot Away…

Haunter Tax Day Extension Excuses

by: RFR Casket Crew Storm
Greetings Deadites,

Tax time has come and gone, and at this point you either are searching the couch for spare change to buy groceries after writing uncle Sam a check, or you are scrambling for some excuses to file an extension. Here a few ill-advised haunt reasons to include with the extension request.

“Left my expense receipts in the zombie costume pants I buried in the back yard to distress.”

“Burned out tax software on computer while programming an animated skull.”

“Tax forms were in the suitcase that got lost on the flight coming back from Transworld.”

“Ran out of blood to sign signature with.”

“Was completing forms while working on a Necronomicon prop and accidently filled out entire form in Latin”

“Mistakenly latexed checkbook to a skeleton, still looking for which one it’s on.”

“Tax preparer stopped returning calls when I asked if severed limb storage was deductable.”

“Left the envelope in my other hearse”

So until next time Deadites, Sit Back, Relax, and Rot Away…

Horrific Haunting Fast Food Promotions

by: RFR Casket Crew Storm

Greetings Deadites,

As a recovering fat bastard I am familiar with that St. Paddy’s day tradition, starting an epic search to find what McDonald’s is a participating location to get the green creamy frozen goodness of a Shamrock Shake. Nothing is more festive, so it makes me wonder what promotional products could fast food chains do for Halloween?

Candy Corn Cobbler: A new side to try at the local Boston Market, gooier then the mac & cheese, and probably worse for your heart.

Killer King Kabobs: Burger King serves up a new type of flame broiled meat, you just have to guess how it got on the stick.

The McDeath: Packaged in a black box, this burger from McDonalds is cursed and could cause a heart attack by just looking at it.

Bloody Burrito: In October when Taco Bell become Taco Hell you can get this treat, a burrito that bleeds something more horrific then extra hot sauce.

Zombie Chili: Wendy’s had a new recipe for their rich and thick chili, the extra chunky grey parts are braaaaaiiinnnnnss!

Bat Wing Donut: This chocolate donut treat is shaped like a bat wing but flavored by the whole bat.

Jack O Lantern Burger: Stop by Jack in The Box for this new signature vegetarian meat like product this October. The Pumpkin meat substitute cooks up fine and they carve a face into each bun.

Screaming Sourdough Roast Beef: Sonic serves up this sandwich extra rare and with tots.

So until next time Deadites, Sit Back, Relax, and Rot Away…

Olympians Who Would make Great Vampires

March 3, 2010 Horror 2 Comments

by: RFR Casket Crew Storm

Greetings Deadites,
I was watching the Olympics and realized that some of these athletes have some bad ass names. The fact is they would make much more fearsome sounding vampires then the sparkling ones that are popular now a days. So here is a list of Vancouver 2010 gold medalists who would also make bad ass vampires.

Magdalena Nuner (Germany Biathlon ): “Mad Maggie” Protected during the cold war by the East German government, she was very effective in making prisoners talk before making a meal of them.

Andre Lange (Germany Bobsled): “The Fang” Make a bad business deal with his bank and you were invited to a private late night dinner meeting, as the main course.

Aksel Lund Svindal (Norway Alpine Skiing): “The Red Avalanche” Make sure you can out ski your friends while on the slopes of Nordland at night.

Olga Zait Seva (Russia Biathlon): “The Ice Princess” There are two things that can kill you in the Siberian wilderness, cold and Olga.

Tessa Virtue (Canada Figure Skating): “The Manitoba Menace” Wandering the streets of Winnipeg alone at night is a not a healthy virtue.

Torah Bright (Australia Snowboarding): “Sea Witch” Many tourists have found just how dangerous a midnight dive on the Barrier Reef can be when they charter her boat.

Shen Xue (China Figure Skating): “The Jade Dragon” The last things her victims see is the fire in her eyes as she makes the kill.

Marcus Hellner (Sweden Cross Country Skiing): “The Hell Bringer” what lies behind the kind demeanor of this after hours chocolate shop owner? Hell on earth.

So until next time Deadites, Sit Back, Relax, and Rot Away…
