American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest #2

American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest #2

Vampire hunters Cash McCogan and Felicia Book get shot down over the mountains of Romania and find themselves trapped in the Nazi-occupied country. And as if these monsters weren’t difficult enough to contend with, they also need to worry about the vampires that stalk the night.

Do you remember this series? Well, I do and I’m still faithfully following it. However, instead of Sheriff Book, we follow special agent Felicia Book, his daughter. And she’s haunted by Sheriff Book’s old nemesis Skinner Sweet. Is Sweet still kicking around? Not sure, but his presence is still felt.

This time or this era, Felicia is not only facing vampires but maybe a more evil force – Nazis. And what’s worse – Nazis vampires.

Along with her partner, Cash McCogan, Felicia is on her way to rescue a scientist from the Nazis when their plane is shot down in Romania. Posing as American sympathizers, these two manage to get their destination in one piece. They meet the scientist they were sent to rescue but something far worse is waiting for them.

American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest #2 was written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Sean Murphy. It is published by Vertigo.

Maris Farms Haunted Woods Welcomes Jigsaw Jim

Maris Farms Haunted Woods

Maris Farms Haunted Woods

Greetings Deadities,

I had the pleasure of visiting a great haunted attraction over the weekend in picturesque Buckley, Washington. Rising like something out of “Children of the Corn”, Maris Farms is a  real working dairy farm that every October tranforms into acres and acres of sheer terror. Based on the “crazy farmer in the cornfield” theme, Maris Farm’s Haunted Woods sends guests out into an almost 2 miles journey through a darkened corn maze (that includes lots of “suprises”) and 20 different sets.

Started in 2004 with a small commmunity theatre group, Plateau Community Players, that provided 20 actors for the show and had over 3,000 attendees for their first season. Maris Farm’s Haunted Woods has grown to be one its most popular yearly events, employing 40 – 50 actors and attracting over 16,000 visitors for the season. Taking over 45 minutes to traverse, this is one of the longest haunted attraction I have ever visited.

Maris Farms Haunt Crew

Maris Farms Haunt Crew

Open all weekends through October including Halloween. Ticket prices are $15 for general admission and $20 for fast pass. Tickets can be purchased on-line or at the farm.

A great big Rotting Flesh Radio thank you to Steve Templeman for all of his assistance and helping to put on one of the best haunted attractions in the pacific Northwest. Highly recommended for all Deadities!

Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Fright Fest Offers New Mazes, Scare Zones, Shows and Extended Park Hours Throughout October!

Six Flags Magic Mountain transforms from a “theme park” to a haunted “scream park” for its 19th season of Fright Fest, Southern California’s most thrilling Halloween experience. This season marks the biggest Fright Fest in the park’s history with four new scare zones, three new mazes, two new shows and extended park hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

Six Flag's Magic Mountain FRIGHT FEST

Six Flag's Magic Mountain FRIGHT FEST

Six Flags Magic Mountain offers 10 more days of terrifying haunted mazes, roaming zombies and spooky shows and is adding a “twisted” element to some of its monster coasters by turning off the lights, leaving riders to face their fears literally in the dark. And, the Fright Fest exclusive that coaster fanatics wait for all year … the transformation of one of the largest, most celebrated coasters in the world … Colossus runs backwards! Running the remaining three frightfully fun weekends, Fright Fest at Magic Mountain leaves no tombstone unturned, bringing guests the ultimate sensory overload for every range of fear. For the little monsters, a Trick or Treat Trail, Kid Scaryoke and Halloween Crafts round out the activities.

The newest and one of the largest mazes in Southern California is “The Aftermath,” where brave souls enter a post-apocalyptic city inhabited by nomad warriors and the dead stalk the living. Also new this year is “Chupacabra,” where guests come face to face with an elusive blood-thirsty creature as it terrorizes the local Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival, and “Cursed,” featuring roaming gypsies and werewolves. Returning mazes include the popular “BITE II,” where sexy and sinister werewolves are out for a bite in this nest of the undead; and “Lecter’s Slaughterhouse,” a family-run business specializing in tasty human treats.

Spooktacular shows include hypnotists Chris Maybre and Suzy Haner, who put park guests in compromising scenarios in their hilarious stage show located in Golden Bear Theater, and the new “Off With Your Head,” a Pop/Glam Rock musical spectacular featuring the music of Bon Jovi, Rihanna and Michael Jackson. Additionally, the comical freaks of the new “Dr. Fright’s CarnEvil” perform the hits of Guns n’ Roses, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga in front of DC UNIVERSE, and be sure to dust off your thriller moves and join in the fun as the popular “DJ Demonic” and “gRAVE” return to the same area.

Fright Fest hours at Six Flags Magic Mountain are from 10:30 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays and Monday, October 31.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is located at 26101 Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia, north of Los Angeles off Interstate 5 at the Magic Mountain Parkway exit. The Park is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October as well as Monday, October 10. For information call (661) 255-4111 or visit us at sixflags.com for operating days and hours.

A Twisted Family Reunion Every Halloween Season

by: RFR Casket Crew Hatter 99

It’s here…Well, it’s here for me at least. Last week I reunited with my morbid “family” for some good old-fashioned pants-peeing fear-mongering. As I settled into my groove and became acquainted with my fellow scareactors, it reminded me of a fundamental reason why I love the industry so much.

Hat ON.

Many of us involved in the haunt industry are not, as some would believe, vampires who sleep all day and stalk all night. Most of us have day jobs (or school responsibilities) during the “normal” waking hours, venues that are rife with politics, cliques, and endless drama. Spending all day, every day, with the same group of people is the ideal incubator for those social diseases that can suck a lot of fun out of life. In the haunt industry, though, I work with my fellow scareactors only a couple of days a week for only one and a half months out of the year. That’s not to say that it completely prohibits the growth of those social parasites; no, they are clearly alive and well, but between the limited hours, the finite season, the various characters we have to play, the masks and makeup and costumes that we wear, and the common goal of scaring the collective pee out of the unsuspecting public, the amount of room for such social barriers to develop diminishes greatly.

Goatman Hollow's Twisted Family (photo: HA Mag)

Goatman Hollow's Twisted Family (photo: HA Mag)

For the most part, then, we scareactors can enjoy our camaraderie and not worry about how our clothes look, whether our hair is fixed appropriately, if our voice sounds funny, or whether we’re being accepted into the “IT” crowd. As a result, the industry has a remarkable air of acceptance that is noticeably absent in most other facets of society as a whole, and to be able to escape into that alternate reality for a few hours each week is a breath of rotting-fresh air.

Hat OFF.

Charlie Brown and The PEANUTS Gang Joins the National “got milk?” Campaign to Encourage Everyone to Make Chocolate Milk the Official Drink of Their Halloween

Peanuts says "We Got Chocolate Milk for Halloween"

Peanuts says "We Got Chocolate Milk for Halloween"

This Halloween, with the help of Charles Schulz’s PEANUTS Gang, the National Milk Mustache “got milk?”® Campaign is encouraging parents to celebrate with the Official Drink of Halloween and treat their little monsters to nutrient-rich lowfat chocolate milk. Chocolate milk is a nutritious treat in disguise – it contains the same essential nutrients found in white milk, with a taste that kids love. Experts agree that most kids need more key nutrients found in milk, and offering chocolate milk is one way to get them to drink more. Studies have shown that kids who drink flavored milk get more of the calcium they need and have better quality diets overall than those who do not drink milk. (1)

“At Halloween and throughout the year, I recommend swapping out sugary soft drinks for nutrient-rich drinks like lowfat milk – whether flavored or white. It has nine essential nutrients growing bodies need – including calcium, vitamin D and potassium, three of the four nutrients of concern for Americans,” says Deborah Mulligan, MD, FAAP, spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

The PEANUTS Cast Dons a ‘Stache

The PEANUTS Halloween-themed Milk Mustache Ad marks the first time in 15 years that all the main characters have appeared together in a US print advertising campaign. The two iconic campaigns have joined forces to remind parents chocolate milk is a great way to give their kids something nutritious around Halloween. The ad also celebrates the 45th anniversary of the Peanuts Halloween animated classic, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”

“Milk is an important part of a healthy diet for growing children, so PEANUTS is happy to support the iconic ‘got milk?’ campaign,” said Neil Cole, Chairman and CEO of Iconix Brand Group, which owns Peanuts Worldwide.

The ad showcases the beloved PEANUTS characters dressed in their Halloween best with one very important accessory – their chocolate milk mustaches. The print copy reads:

Your Trick. Their Treat. This year, milk is dressing up as the perfect Halloween treat: chocolate milk. Its nine essential nutrients make it delicious and nutritious. Scare some up and make it your official drink of Halloween.

It’s So Good, It’s Scary

At a time when there is often an increased amount of sweets in the house, chocolate milk is one treat that moms can feel good about, and it’s good for your kids. Each 8-oz. serving contains a full bundle of nutrients growing kids need.

“Lowfat chocolate milk provides the same nutrition as white milk,” Mulligan said. “As a substitute for candy and other sweets, it’s a treat you won’t have to trick your kids into liking, and it helps teach children about sensible nutrition choices.”

This Halloween, pick up some lowfat chocolate milk, serve it at your kids’ Halloween bash or create frighteningly fun Halloween-inspired recipes. Visit Facebook.com/MilkMustache to learn more about the benefits of lowfat chocolate milk and how to make it part of your Halloween celebrations and beyond.

The Haunted Tents – Yakima, WA

by: RFR Casket Crew Unknown Scare Actor

The Haunted Tents

The Haunted Tents

The Haunted Tents.
Yakima’s Premier Home Haunt.

The Haunted Tents Halloween display has been around since 2004. What started out originally with 1) 20 foot
by 20 foot tent and A simple maze, 30 feet long, with 3 simple displays in side has grown over the years. And
now going on our 7 year, we have 6 different tents, 1) 20 foot by 20 foot tent and 5) 10 foot by 10 foot tents
that cover not only our front yard but our gardens and our Drive way as well. Inside the tents you’ll find over
270 feet of maze with 14 different displays hidden within.

As far as a theme goes. For us the Tents are the theme not the displays. And both the Maze and the displays
change from year to year as we add new things and retire old things, In this way we hope that each year will
be both fresh and new to those Trick or Treaters that  stop by and see us every year..

One thing that has stayed the same from the vary first year though is that we try to keep the whole thing
Family orientated. Which means all ages should enjoy the displays, each display has at least 1 animated thing
in it and many of them are designed to started or scare a person. 2 things you wont find is people with chain
saws chasing you around or a lot of gore.

For the 2011 Halloween Season The Haunted Tents hold a lot of new things for our guest to see and enjoy. 4 of
our displays are getting major over hauls this year, One of them with a 9 foot long water feature that will glow
under black light,, we are vary excited about this. Also we will be adding a lot of new props to many of the
displays, but im not going to say to much on that and give the surprise away for people.

2 other new items for this year revolve around our hours, the first is that this year we will be open 4 days, last
year we were open only 3 days, and second by popular request instead being open just in the evening we will
now be open during the day as well. The nice thing about this is that the Haunted Tents will Have 2 totally
different feels to it… so you could go through it during the day and see what things look like in broad day light
then return at night and experience the fun.

As with years past, Admission to the Haunted Tents Display is totally FREE, We do Except Cash Donation with a
portion of all Donation going to the Children’s Miracle Network. A local Children’s Charity in our area.
