It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown on Blu-Ray

September 7, 2010 Halloween, Haunt Industry, News 1 Comment

As a child life was much more simple. Less channels to watch and it was a time when society didn’t blacklist holidays or holiday specials.

Those were the moments you remember as a child, seasonal items you grew up watching right before trick or treating and so on. I have made sure to introduce many of these to our children and now we can do it in full 1080p High Definition! Today’s marks the release of It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown out on Blu-Ray.

Yes, the annual CLASSIC has returned for a new generation to enjoy. This first time release on Blu-Ray will dazzle you as the crisp crystal clear lines and true art can be seen and appreciated from the artists animation to the sound and full Halloween experience.

Aside from the crystal clear clarity of Blu-Ray it does offer some bonus features, many of which happen to be part of the previous Remastered DVD, but still remain fun to enjoy. You will be able to watch in addition to Great Pumpkin, It’s Magic Charlie Brown where a monumental thing happens in Charlie kicking the football for the first time that us as viewers ever see.

You also can enjoy the ever popular documentary We Need a Blockbuster Charlie Brown where they follow the team behind The Great Pumpkin and how it came to be.

In addition to the Blu-Ray you get the added plus DVD so you can watch it on the go, basic players in kids rooms and more.

Overall this is a must-have for any Halloween Special fan and due note that a complete Holidays Special Blu-Ray pack will hit the stores as well on October 5, 2010.

Watch the Best Horror Movies Ever Today!

from: RFR Casket Crew Jigsaw Jim

Greetings Film Fiends and Deadites,

I was recently asked by several friends to recommend the BEST horror/scary movies ever made. After much pondering I present the BEST old, new and blue movie of all time!

For the best OLD MOVIE, I actually picked a sci-fi flick:

This movie has it all! Stellar casting, fantastic special effects and a plot that you and your friends will be talking about for years to come! This movie will really make you think.

For my NEW MOVIE I thought, well summer is coming up soon and nothing says horror like scary camp movies (Sleepaway Camp, Friday the 13th, etc) so I picked the scariest camp movie I could find:

This movie really scared me with all of the monsters running around and especially this Carrie like ending:

Finally for my BLUE MOVIE, I wanted to pick a werewolf/shapeshifter type movie. I thought of Sleepwalkers but instead chose this film:

Fabulous acting (the lead should have been nominated for an Oscar!) and great special effects!

There you have it Deadites, the best horror films ever and I recommend all of you going out and purchasing these cinematic treasures.

Until next time, keep your eyes glued to the screen and don’t pull back or you’re liable to scream!

P.S. Remember What Today Is….

The Dunwich Horror Plus a Little About Me

The Dunwich Horror

The Dunwich Horror by HP Lovecraft

Hello all you Deadites,

Being new to the RFR Casket Crew, I thought I would introduce myself before telling you what I’ll be bringing to RFR and to all of you.

First I must confess that I’m a native Texan who loves the horror genre. From print to film, I love all things scary and spooky. I found RFR about a year and a half ago and kept up with everything as much as possible. When the opportunity popped out of the graveyard to work with Jonathan and the other casket crew members, I jumped out of my skin because I love to write. And I get excited about writing about a subject I’m passionate about.

The horror genre covers a wide range of things. From vampires to werewolves, witches to wizards. It covers everything dead and ummm…undead too. One of my fondest memories is listening to ghost stories at an early age. The stories terrified me but I couldn’t get enough. I would listen to these stories and go to sleep with the covers over my head. As I got older, I would read these stories and then tuck the book under the mattress before drifting off to my nightmares.

I still enjoy a good story whether I’m listening to an audio book or orator or reading the printed word. I like Stephen King, Dean Knootz, Ann Rice, Laurell K. Hamilton or Kelley Armstrong. However, I don’t think I would be able to read any of these authors’ works if it weren’t for those who paved, or helped pave, the road. One such man like H.P. Lovecraft.

Howard Phillip Lovecraft was an American author of horror fantasy and science fiction. During his career, it was classified simply as weird fiction.

The Dunwich Horror is part of Lovecraft’s weird fiction. It was first published in 1929. I actually listened to a dramatized version of this story that I purchased from Audible. And even though it’s been more than seventy years since its first publication, it’s still an eerie tale.

The plot revolves around the desire of Wilbur Whately, the son of a deformed albino mother and an unknown father, to acquire an unabridged Latin version of the Necronomicon – his imperfect English copy ill-suited for his dark purpose – so that he may open the way for the mysterious “Old Ones.”

Next time I’ll be catching a ride with Marty McFly as he goes back to the future. I’ll be reviewing Stephen King’s latest work UR.

Come On and Sing Along to American Psycho the Musical

February 2, 2010 Horror, News No Comments

So we have word from Variety that in the vein of obscure musicals, like our favorites Evil Dead The Musical or Young Frankie, the Bret Easton Ellis novel American Psycho, that is also a cult classic film, will be made and adapted into the Musical Format!

Duncan Sheik is going to be helming the lyrics and music for the adaption. I am not sure if this will be good or bad, but hey, it is worth a shot in our eyes.

The Wall Street Broker going Serial Killer Novel and Film will definitely have a feel that is all its’ own. The huge 80s references and feel will most likely see their way to the stage, but I hope it doesn’t overtake it too much. Although Christian Bale did a great job making an 80s Wall Street Broker seem nuts, wait, he may be too. All in all, let’s see where this goes.

Morbid Movie Time Snacks Contest

Greetings Film Fiends and Deadites,

During this past haunt season Rotting Flesh Radio asked its listeners what their favorite haunted attraction snack was?

As someone who watches “way too many” horror films, I am trying to come up with some ideas and recipes for appropriate food items while watching macabre movies (beyond the obvious of popcorn).

The winner of the recipe I pick will receive a DVD of an unusual and unique horror film.

Submit your ideas and recipes to jigsawjim @ rfrpodcast.com and Good Luck!

Horror Realm Presents: Indie Grindhouse

January 28, 2010 Horror, News No Comments

The Horror Realm Presents Independent Grindhouse on March 13, 2010, Featuring Indie Horror Films, Trailers & Filmmakers Q&A

OFFICIAL RELEASE:Horror Realm, Pittsburgh’s modern horror convention, teams up with the Oaks Theater to present a program highlighting independent horror films on March 13, 2010 beginning at 10 PM.

The program begins with trailers for upcoming independent horror productions, followed by a screening of Welcome to Deer Creek, winner of the 2009 Horror Realm Feature Film Competition. The film was written and directed by Jim Roberts, a Kent State University student from Brecksville, Ohio. Welcome to Deer Creek tells the story of a small town’s populace turning into crazed killers during the annual corn celebration. Bastards of Horror declares Welcome to Deer Creek “the independent equal of Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive”.

A question and answer session with Roberts as well as fellow filmmaker Rick “of the Dead” Fusselman of DSK Productions follows. The final offering of the evening will be Holy Sh*t…Zombies!, a horror comedy that Fusselman concedes is “as un-PC as possible” and will “insult every demographic possible”. The film follows two slackers as they fight off zombies and is an indirect sequel of DSK’s 2005 film, Toxic Shock Zombies. Gross Movie Reviews raves “it is unlike any zombie film you have ever seen”.

Tickets for the program can be purchased at the door the night of the event for $5. Each paid admission will be eligible for a prize drawing for a pair of weekend passes to the Horror Realm Convention in September 2010.

Details on the convention can be found at: www.HorrorRealmCon.com. NOTE: While the films are unrated, due to the content, violence, blood and gore, it is recommended for adult audiences only (age 18 and up). The Oaks Theater is a gloriously refurbished, 430-seat single screen movie house located at 310 Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont, PA. For questions about the venue, please call (412) 828-6311 or visit the theater’s web site at www.TheOaksTheater.com.
