HalloWeekends 15, PointFest and Boat Show Return to Cedar Point for the Haunt Season

Many theme parks throughout the United States gear up for the Haunt Season and celebrate with Halloween Activites, Special Haunted Nights and more. One of the most fun smaller venues on the board is Cedar Point. Rotting Flesh Radio had the chance to venture to this park a few years ago while traveling to the Midwest Haunters Convention. Well now in time for the Haunt and Halloween Season Cedar Point has the HalloWeekends Back in full form and other Haunting Goodies.

HalloWeekend at Cedar Point

HalloWeekend at Cedar Point

“Cedar Point will offer a wide array of family entertainment this week when three popular special events return to the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort.

For seven weekends, HalloWeekends will provide an unmatched mix of rides and roller coasters, haunted houses and fright zones, live shows and special attractions such as the Monster Midway Invasion Celebration parade that will feature four new floats.

This year HalloWeekends will also add two new fright zones (Screamworks along the Frontier Trail and Blood on the Bayou that will lead guests along the lagoon) and two new shows (The Edge of Madness – Six Feet Under in the Red Slaughter Saloon and Dr. Cleaver in the Clink in The Palace Theatre).

For an additional fee, the new Zombie Tour will provide front-of-the-line privileges at the park’s four haunted houses and the Blood on the Bayou and CornStalkers fright zones. Visit cedarpoint.com for all of the details.

POINTFEST
Presenting some of today’s most popular Christian artists, PointFest will return to Cedar Point for its third year on Saturday, Sept. 17. It will feature nearly six hours of music and entertainment.

Headlining this year’s show will be Skillet whose performance will be highlighted by a lively pyrotechnics show and Christian music icon TobyMac, who returns for his second appearance at PointFest. Other entertainers include Manic Drive, Disciple and comedian Bone Hampton.

The Midwest Haunters Convention Needs You!

The Midwest Haunters Convention

The Midwest Haunters Convention

As we approach 2012, it is never too early to be thinking about the next Tradeshow, Convention, or Haunt Gathering. That is how us Haunters grow, learn, share information, and make our Pro Haunts, Home Haunts, Parties better every season.

Well, one of the best conventions is that event RFR has dubbed the “One Last Haunt Romp” is the Midwest Haunters Convention. And as they gear up for the 2012 Annual Event, they have some call outs for those Haunters, Pros and others in our Haunt Family.

To begin how about the education? Everyone loves the Education at MHC and they have a call out for speakers to share, educate and teach Haunters how to grow in specific areas of haunting.

Seminar Series at The Midwest Haunters Convention

Seminar Series at The Midwest Haunters Convention

“MHC is known for having the best educational offerings in the haunt industry. We start assembling the classes in November after the haunt season is over however it is not too early to start thinking about it. If you are interested in speaking, or have an idea for a class or a workshop, let us know! Just send an email to Barry@midwesthaunters.com
And moving forward from the education how about showing off your haunt stuff! Midwest Haunters is also looking for you to show off your Haunt Ride!

Many haunters deck out Hearses, Cars and more to place in front of their Haunted Attractions, drive in parades and more to promote their haunt. Well now you can show it off in 2012 to your fellow Haunt Peers.

MHC Annual Hearse Show

MHC Annual Hearse Show

“Show Off Your Ride in the custom car area of the 2011 trade show was a huge hit! It was so well received that we are going to expand it for 2012! Start making your plans now to bring your hearses and custom haunt cars to Columbus next June. On a related note, due to scheduling conflicts, we will be unable to offer the outdoor hearse parking for 2012.”

Finally, all conventions are made possible by the Haunters supporting the event! It is our Haunt Community that push conventions forward and make it so they can come back year after year. And the Midwest Haunters Convention Needs Your Support too!

Tradeshow Floor at MHC

Tradeshow Floor at MHC

“We Need Your help! Are there people at your haunt that have never been to MHC? Do you have makeup people and actors that would benefit from our seminars and workshops? Want to see more of your friends at MHC? Help us promote MHC by putting our cards in the makeup and dressings rooms of your haunts. Simple send your name and address to Kathy@midwesthaunters.com and we will get some out to you!”

So even though we are kicking off the Haunt Season, it is never too early to figure out how to grow in 2012. And you can always listen to the Archives of complete Coverage of the Midwest Haunters Convention on the Rotting Flesh Radio website at: www.RFRPodcast.com

Over the past several years, the Midwest Haunters Convention has grown to become one of the biggest and most popular events in the Haunted Attraction Industry, (Listen to over six hours from the social events, vendors, show floor and more. Click Here For Part One from RFR and Click Here For Part Two from RFR ) and for good reason. This show has a lot to offer, including a wide variety of workshops and seminars, a large trade show floor, product demos, contests and of course, the masquerade party. I also can’t forget to mention the pre-show haunted attraction tour. This two day haunt tour, which filled four charter buses, included hotel accommodations, meals and access to 20 haunts in 10 different haunted attractions throughout Central/Northeast Indiana and Western Ohio. There was also a free haunt tour of Terrorfest, a local haunted attraction in Columbus, on Friday night. It was reported that there was a 50% increase in pre-show registration compared to last years’ figures, which is no surprise to me, considering all that MHC has to offer.

More than 75 vendors came to the convention with practically everything you would ever need to run a haunted attraction, including props, lighting, music, make-up, special effects, and various haunt services like online ticketing, promotional services and event insurance. While walking up and down the aisles of the show floor, there were many things that caught my eye, including the following items & vendors who deserve special mention:

Raven’s Wolf had one of the most visually appealing booths at the show. One half of the booth was themed with boulders and stone arches, while the other half was decorated in an industrial style. The walls were dirty, distressed and adorned with rusty pipes. Featured in their booth were custom T-shirts, amazing wall art, distressed costumes and more. What a great way to showcase their impressive design services for the haunted attraction industry!

8th Annual Midwest Haunters Convention

The 8th Annual Midwest Haunters Convention

Another company that did a great job of creating an elaborate, eye-catching display was Screamline Studios. The majority of their booth space was filled by a realistic-looking old tool shed, with weathered wood and a corrugated metal roof. Hanging from the walls were several “weapons” from their ever-expanding line of “Meat Mangler” tools. Additional themeing was provided by accent lighting, cobwebs, and a wooden workbench inside the shed. Great job, guys! It was like something you would see inside of a haunted house.

Pumpkin Pulp Productions’ booth really stood out, because of their eight foot tall Zombie Rocking Horse. It definitely attracted a lot of attention at the show. What is even cooler is that fact that the horse wasn’t just a static prop, it was a sturdy, working display piece. PPP staff was even letting show attendees climb up on the horse and rock back & forth on it.

At the Sinister Scents booth, there were many interesting products made by Dark Hand Designs. The booth featured creepy hand-made ornaments, jewelry boxes, sketch books, costumes and home decor. My personal favorites were the tree ornaments and jewelry boxes with teeth. These items would be perfect for anyone with an appreciation for dark art or the macabre.

It was another great year at the Midwest Haunters Convention! MHC continues to raise the bar, making the show better and better each year, which is why it continues to be my favorite Haunt Industry Event. Special thanks to show organizers Barry Schieferstein, Kathy Schieferstein, Kelly Collins & Neena Collins for putting together such a phenomenal convention.

Click here and throughout the several pages, there are more than 370 pictures. I hope you enjoy this online review!

CHECK OUT BADGER AT THE 2011 MIDWEST HAUNTERS CONVENTION:

Skulls of the Shogun Debuts at E3

Since many of the Haunt Industry Vendors are finally back from MHC and getting those orders out, most haunters are building their events and actors are fine tuning their characters, what can a haunter do in their minimal down time?

Well many haunters still want to be emersed into the horror and haunt industry even then, so how about an All-New Horror Game from the guys at HAUNTED TEMPLE STUDIOS. They were at the recent E3 Gaming Event and showcased their brand new title the “Skulls of the Shogun”

This new title was played at their booth kiosk by one of the RFR Casket Crew at E3. It was created by Haunted Temple Studios and this game is basically a re-envisioned style of game, I personally love…turn style RPG game! The game itself is very nice vector artwork. It has nice heavy linework, solid illustrations and animated characters that you can only imagine being an avatar on a forum somewhere. A gamer can only love this style of illustration in a game.

Skulls of the Shogun Game

Skulls of the Shogun Game

The game itself is comprised of selecting your team of Archers, Calvary and Infantry to use when on the battlefield. It is up to you to decide which team will be the best attack team for you based on range of attack, defense and what not. There is also some type of General who is dormant until he is awaken from his slumber and then can be used in battle.

The game is very involved and lives up to the classic RPG style games of the day, yet bringing it forward to 2011 and 2012. Players will notice the movement of your team, characters and controls are unique, yet once grasped, are very fluid and give them a wide range of capabilities from large movements to smaller ones as well.

This game was surrounded by gamers who were raving about the game and it seemed that it was met with much priase and applause. It has breathed life into an era of gaming that is very set in it’s fan base, yet leave room for the new blood to want to play and discover RPG gaming.

The game does not have a release date yet, but I can assure you it is right around the corner. IF you would like to read a very in-depth review you can find that at: www.Gamerant.com

Rotting Flesh Radio’s Unknown Scare Actor Takes His Last Ride and We Have the Video

Hey there Deadites. While attending the Midwest Haunters Convention this past weekend, Rotting Flesh Radio’s Unknown Scare Actor was on hand covering the event with many other of the Casket Crew.

While there, he had the pleasure of experiencing death! Yes, he took his Last Ride in the last ride simulator that you heard us speak about during our Annual Haunt Tours, at Transworld and more.

So instead of explaining it more….here is the video to prove it.

Sit Back, Relax and Rot Away…

Midwest Haunters Convention 2011 Was a Blast!

Greetings Deadites,

Well, sadly the weekend is over. All good things must come to an end.  Midwest Haunters Convention was everything I hoped it would be.  I wish I had made it for the pre-haunt tour, but we’ll have next year. rolled in Saturday morning and the fun started.  The tradeshow floor isn’t as big as Transworld, but the interactivity with vendors plus the cash and carry options were great!

I had to stop by Von Charon Productions to visit my friends Anita and Tom, Stopped next door to visit Tom Devlin of 1313Fx ( LISTEN TO TOM ON RFR AT HAuNTcon 2011) and I picked up 3 new masks for the collection.

I made my way around the floor, meeting with RFR Casket Crew members Jackie, Jerry Vayne, Katie Lane, Storm and Badger.  Made new friends in Matt, from Skeletons and More, Ashley Whetsel and Marne Boyd at Dreamscape Studios, Charles Terry at Haunt Apps.

Skeletons and More

Skeletons and More.com

Then it was off the be the guinea pig, I mean assistant, for Badger during his Boo Camp Seminar.

We had a pretty full house and I found Badger entertaining and instructive, so for you haunt owners out there that need actor training, book him now, slots are filling up fast.

As the show floor wrapped up that evening it was off for some dinner before the Masquerade Ball.  Went with several other people to a brew pub down the street from the hotel.  The food was awesome, but the service sucked, and we were there way too long, and I still had makeup to get done.  finally got the party around 9:30 and everything was hopping.  The level of the costuming was a sight to behold with many very creative designs, that only passionate haunters could come up with.
Midwest Haunters Convention

Midwest Haunters Convention - Columbus, OH

We cheered for Jackie during the Miss Scary Midwest, and even though she didn’t win she’s still tops in our book.  the party went late and shifted over to the Zombie Army bus.

Sunday found us wandering around bleery eyed, with coffee in hand, watching other people staggering in with bloodshot eyes.  Had a meeting  with Badger, Allen Hopps, and Michele Arroyo around 11:30, details later…after some casket crew photos, is was time to head back to the scare-actor lair.  For my first MHC, I was not dissapointed at all, I met some great people and had a great time. I can’t wait til next year Deadites!

So Sit Back, Relax and Rot Away….and Remember one thing Deadites,

Everyone……………..is afraid of something.
