Scare Actor Spotlight: The Blood King Mathias of Lexington Screampark

Alright all you Deadites,

One thing that brings a haunt to life is its’ actors. It is these talented people that put the scare, terror and fear into your event. These Scare Actors deserve some spotlight, because without them, animatronics, makeup, details and webs wouldn’t come to life and scare your customers. If you would like your character to be featured be sure to email us at: news @ rfrpodcast.com and put “Scare Actor Spotlight” in the subject head.

In keeping with our Rotting Flesh Radio Scare Actor Spotlight we have another mad man to introduce to you. THE BLOOD KING MATHIAS of LEXINGTON SCREAMPARK.

Lexington Screampark

Lexington Screampark

About Jay Neal – The Scare Actor:
“I’ve been a home haunted and Halloween enthusiast since i can remember. My first experience in a haunted house was universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, after that I was hooked I went every year then I moved north to Lexington, KY and wanted to cross over into professional haunting. I joined up in 2010 with Tyler and Ed’s Lexington Screampark and I’ve grown to love it more than HHN. Combine my love for making Medieval Armor with acting, Mathias is a direct result of that.

The Blood King Mathias:

Field report,

In 1224, a warrior rose to the role of king in the country of Masovia. A frigid and hard land, Masovia was politically in anarchy with the lords fighting amongst themselves. The warrior known as Mathias made a name for his prowess on the battlefield and for his devotion to his men. After fighting many useless wars for his lord, Mathias saw that the only way Masovia would ever be a unified nation, a single ruler would have to rise.

He set forth with his men to bring down the current noble class and unite his land. A swift victory was achieved over most of the land by Mathias and his men, and the castle Torún was chosen as his military base. Mathias knew that his reign would be in jeopardy if he did not bring the remaining nobles down. Here, the story takes a dark turn.

Mathias held a celebration tournament thrown in honor of his victory, there was to be music, dancing, food, wine, and general merriment was to be had by all…for a while, at least. On the second evening of the event, he had the nobles and their families kidnapped from their beds to be beheaded and impaled upon stakes. The next morning, Mathias addressed the people in front of the bodies.

“For too long has the nobility of this land robbed the common people of their lives…! See them now, as they have been brought to justice…!” The speech carried on in this fashion, interjected only by the cheers from the people as he spoke. As the peasants cheered, they felt that for the first time they had escaped oppression. This was to be a short-lived felling for them.

As time went on, Mathias’ law became harsh and his punishment harsher yet. The people lived in fear of his iron fist and his cruel punishments. These included hanging, being drawn and quartered, impalement, being skinned alive, and entombment in the castle walls, among many others too gruesome to be mentioned.

He grew to be known as the “Blood King” by his enemies and his people. In 1241, he was murdered by a rival general, who then scattered the Blood King’s armor, shield, sword, and crown throughout the kingdom. With the Blood King’s final breaths, he swore that he would come back with every Nightmare, demon, and beast from Hell to extract his revenge upon those who would betray him.

With that, his reign came to a bloody end. However, there is a legend that says his very soul is in the armor, shield, sword, and crown taken from him the night he was slaughtered. It goes on to say that if they were ever reunited, the Blood King would rise, bringing with him an army of the dead and humanity would be lost.

After his death, the local clerics tried to bury the knowledge of Mathias and his accursed armaments. Their efforts proved useless as in 1983, archeologists uncovered writings from a monk discussing the locations of the “Nameless King”, and a search started for the resting place of these items.

The armor and sword were recovered and put on display in the British Museum for a time, until they were later put in storage, coming up missing in 1996. The crown and shield resurfaced in 2006 and were auctioned off to private collector, who reported them stolen a short time later. It is alleged that a haunted attraction in Lexington, Kentucky; called SCREAMPARK; has located and reunited these items in their attraction, the Castle of Fear. These poor souls do not realize what they have released. I intend to travel there to warn them…my only hope is that I am not too late..

I will report back with my findings, whether they be grievous or joyous. Let us hope for the latter.

Robert Walker

Mr. Walker is far to late I am here and I await him and all the fools that enter my castle. The forest of the impaled will rise, and the river’s of blood will flow.

Where will the Unknown Scare Actor be Luring at the Midwewst Haunters Convention

Greetings Deadites, the The RFR Casket Crew’s Unknown Scare Actor here,

Well, the holiday weekend is over, the grill has been put away, and I never want to see s sheet of drywall again!!! But its all good, because next weekend it the Midwest Haunters Convention! I have been waiting for a year. Unfortunate circumstances prevented me from going last year, but the plans have been made, the hotel has been booked, the scare-mobile has been gassed up, and the costumes are prepped.

I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of you deadites, and I hope to see some of you in Badger’s Boo Camp seminar, as I will be assisting him. Keep an eye out for the casket crew as we will be lurking around the tradeshow floor, and you never know which mask I might be wearing. The costume ball looks to be an awesome night, with  a lot going on, from Miss Scary Midwest (RFR Haunt Hottie Jackie is a contestant) to the body art contest, as well as the dancing and mingling with haunters from all over the country.

So if someone comes up to you with a mic and asks what phobias you have, it just might be me….

See you all this weekend, and always remember, Everyone………is afraid of something!

Southern Haunts: The All-New Interactive Haunt Directory

Southern Haunts Directory

Southern Haunts Haunt Directory

With the haunt season right around the corner, you have to start thinking about listing your event. in the end, what good is a haunted attraction if you aren’t able to scare anyone?

Many directories out there list your haunt for free and it is a good way to gain awareness of your event. There are also region specific directories as well like Haunted Wisconsin, Haunted Illinois, Haunted R.I., and also many general directories such as HauntedHouse.com. These directories, are useful and helpful in many patrons finding events close to them, and also get reviews from other customers who attended your event.

Now let’s bring directories into a new era, fast forward to 2011 and I think we have the Winner in Southern Haunts.

Health and Safety in the Haunt Industry

August 2, 2010 Haunt Industry, News 1 Comment

by: RFR Casket Crew Jigsaw Jim

Greetings Film Fiends and Deadites,

You know me as the film reviewer here on Rotting Flesh Radio (and a not very good one at that). When I’m not practicing Hoodoo and black magick, I work in the emergency medical field as an EMT trainer/supervisor. I am going to be posting regular segments on Health and Safety specific to the Haunt Industry.

As conventions are well underway and everyone is planning for the upcoming Haunt season, one thing that often gets overlooked is safety and medical preparedness. As a caveat, the information I post will in no way take the place of professional instruction (first aid/CPR) that you and many of your staff should enroll in. On the contrary, it will be an adjunct on specific concerns for the haunt industry.

For example:
What to do if an actor or patron gets sick or injured?

What to do if a patron starts seizing due to strobe lights?

How to “safely” evacuate your attraction and have an evacuation plan.

There will be a myriad of topics covered and links for training that I encourage everyone to take.

Lets make this season a truly scary (and safe) one!

Leave us a Shout Out on the Rot Line!

We want to hear for you the Deadites and play it on RFR. So call the Rotting Flesh Radio Rot Line Today.

Reading Between the Pages: UR by Stephen King

March 9, 2010 Horror No Comments

by: RFR Casket Crew Denise

Greeting all you Deadites, it’s time for the next installment of what I like to call Reading Between the Pages.

Reeling from a painful break-up, English instructor and avid book reader Wesley Smith is haunted by his ex-girlfriend’s harsh and hurtful parting words. He buys an e-book reader and soon finds he can use the device to glimpse realities he never imagined and discovers literary riches beyond his wildest dreams…and all-too-human tragedies that surpass his worst nightmare. This is the plot summary for Stephen King’s latest work UR.

I love Stephen King’s work. He has a way of taking an object we take for granted, gives it life and then twist the realities in which it lives. The latest device is an Amazon Kindle. He has also done this with cell phones in Cell and stationary bikes in Stationary Bike. The last two I will reserve talking about later.

So for now let’s focus on the Kindle. But before I get back to the book, let me give you a brief history on my relationship with the writer.

I think it started when I read Misery. I was in college and had just finished mid-term exams. I went to the bookstore looking for something to occupy my time until classes resumed. I picked up the paperback not realizing it would lead to a 2 day marathon session. From the time I cracked the spine, I was riveted and barely took time to eat, drink or use the restroom. And in the two days it took to finish the book, I think I got about three hours of sleep.

Prior to reading Misery, I had read a couple of other books by Mr. King but for whatever reason, I wasn’t impressed. After I finished Misery and my breathing returned to a normal gate, I went back to the store and picked up a couple more books written before Misery. As before, I found myself in another marathon session as I consumed the words within the books as if they were food satisfying a wolfish appetite. Since that fateful day when I innocently walked into the bookstore looking for something to kill time, I have been a huge fan of Stephen King…maybe his number one fan.

UR is no different than Misery. As before, I was hooked before I could put a really good crack in the spine. I immediately liked Wesley Smith, the English instructor, and thought of some of the professors I had when in college. He is a likable nerdy guy who has enough social skills to relate to his students but seems a little retarded in other social scenes. Hell, I could have dated this guy….and have.

When Wesley receives his Kindle, I found myself smiling and grimacing as he fumbles with unfamiliar technology. I have found myself in numerous situations trying to help friends and family set up devices that are foreign to them. My parents spent six months doing nothing but playing solitaire before they learned how to use Windows XP. But when Wesley discovers the urs, my breathing sped up as if I were in a foot race, my mind flashed back to my college days and I read faster and faster before I finally reached the end, slammed the book shut and thought about calling the paramedics because heart was hammering so hard I thought it might burst through my shirt.
*Pause*breathe*relax*

UR is a suspenseful and horrific story about possibilities, alternate realities and trendy technology. It awakens the imagination to wonder what you would do if you had the knowledge and power to stop a catastrophic event. And if the catastrophe was thwarted, would you suffer the ramifications of stopping it?

I definitely recommend UR. While it’s not the same type of horror/suspense as Misery, Pet Cemetery or The Shinning, it will leave you breathless and make the hair on the back of your neck stand at attention.

Next time, I will be switching gears and looking at Jim Butcher’s Proven Guilty. However if there’s something you are interested in and want to know if it’s good before investing the money, please drop me a line and I give you an honest review of it.
