Corey Haim Dies at Age 38

March 10, 2010 Horror, News No Comments

We all remember Dream a Little Dream, License to Drive and most of all The Lost Boys, one of the best Vampire films of my generation. And with that came the two Coreys. Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. The duo made pop culture history in the 1980s with screaming girls and fun slapstick films.

As of today the 1980s child star Corey Haim has been found dead in Los Angeles. He was a mere 38 years old. The Los Angeles coroner’s office said that Haim died Wednesday morning at the Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and they are awaiting an autopsy for cause of death. Although rumors have been tossed around that it may have been a possible drug overdose.

Haim began his acting career in 1984 with the film “Firstborn” and then moved on to some of his most famous roles in “Lucas” and “The Lost Boys”. Once drugs entered the scene of his career it pretty much tanked it. And in the recent years with 80s making a nostaliga comeback, he was in some lower budget films and in the popular television series “The Two Coreys,” again with Corey Feldman.

The show lasted two seasons and Feldman declined to do another due to Haim’s drug use.

Haim was currently working on a comeback to his career with films currently in production that also starred Mischa Barton in “The Science of Cool” and “The Dead Sea”.

Overall, Haim will be lost forever to Hollywood’s often childhood tragedies and us fans can remember him as part of the Lost Boys Team.

In Colorado? Head out to Nocturnal Nightmares Haunted Attraction

As the Haunt Season is coming to a close, we continue featuring some Haunted Attractions throughout the United States for you to enjoy. Moving aside from the Midwest and East Coast lets head over to Colorado. It is there you will experience the Nocturnal Nightmares Haunted Attraction

The Nocturnal Nightmares is a Fort Collins Haunted Attraction located in Northern Colorado. It originated as way for Non-Profit Groups to earn some extra funds for their projects, charities and more. Starting in 1999, the event has grown to be one of the most enjoyed in their area. They focus on theatrics, and not the excessive blood, guts and gore. They continue in the old age tradition of Skeletons, Vampires, Zombies and more, putting a focus on the actors bringing the scares to life.

This year’s event has continued to scare its patrons and the event has worked with such local Non-Profits as the Wellington Fire Department, Wellington Community Action Committee and The Fort Collins Jaycees. In 2006 Nocturnal Nightmares had the opportunity to put on a large “professional” haunt. While it was an incredible experience they decided that they had more fun, had a better haunt, and made more of a community impact when we worked with non-profit groups.

The event one that you will enjoy and help the local community. So if you are in the Northern Colorado area visit the event before Halloween at: NocturnalNightmares.com. Tickets are only $10.00 and there is a Children’s Matinee : $5.00, Lights On For the Kiddies (Halloween, October 31st, 12-3pm only)

Deputy Struck By Car While Working at a Haunted House Passes On

In the Haunt Industry, much of the Haunted Attraction teams are volunteer based. Actors, Staff, Production and more. And for one volunteer Deputy, the outlook posed to be grim in the end. Mike Wilken was the on site traffic duty patrol when a Car struck him while the event was going on. His injuries were critical, and he couldn’t pull through and passed on early Sunday Morning.

Outside the entrance to Fright Farm in Maplewood, black tape covered the sheriff’s emblems on the doors of a patrol car Sunday. Flowers and notes on the windshield paid tribute to Mike Wilken, a Ramsey County reserve deputy and regular haunted house volunteer who had died just hours before. Wilken, 56, of Newport, was on traffic duty for the event when a vehicle driven by a “common Joe Citizen” struck him at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of White Bear Avenue and Frost Avenue, said Maplewood police Sgt. Kevin Johnson.

Wilken suffered multiple critical injuries and was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he died early Sunday morning.

Sunday was a tough day for the volunteers at the haunted house, which the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office runs to raise money for the D.A.R.E. drug- prevention program.

“I feel horrible. He was a member of the family,” said Ramsey County sheriff’s Cmdr. Brad Camitsch, who started Fright Farm in 1996. “We’re kind of trying to keep a stiff upper lip. People are coming, expecting to have some fun, and we’re trying to give them that.”…..

Want a Wish or Fortune this Halloween? Get it from Zoltar!

Growing up we remember many things, from pop culture to films that influenced us. I clearly remember a film with Tom Hanks called BIG. In this film, Hanks makes a wish to be a grown up at an old Coney Island Fortune Teller stand. I often wanted something like that to happen to me.

Well, since that was never bound to happen, how about the next closet thing? Zoltar! Zoltar is a fortune teller inspired from the movie BIG. Zoltar was a staple at many piers across the nation from Coney Island to Florida’s Daytona Beach and more. And this interactive actor portraying the role makes it even more creepy by having the Fortune Telling Box mounted on a segway! So now he can torment, read the future and entertain people as they try to run in fear, or follow along in curiosity. Zoltar took FIRST PLACE in the 2009 Coney Island Mermaid Parade, and is gaining his own following of admirers.

Now you can also have Zoltar at your event as well anytrime of the year! You can hire Zoltar to tell fortunes, creep people out, and entertain those guests at events. Zoltar’s master, Jonathan Gleich, has a real job and management frowns on side work, so Zoltar is only available for Friday-Saturday-Sunday appearances. If you need Zoltar for an extended period in strange and wondrous lands, Jonathan has three weeks vacation sometime in the year.

So for some Halloween fun and fortune, ASK ZOLTAR and maybe, just maybe in true Tom Hank style, it may come true!

Stand Back and Let the Real Psychos Show You How Its Done at Dreamreapers Haunted House!

Back at the Transworld Haunt Show in 2007, RFR was vending there and we had a chance to visit the Dreamreapers Haunted House in Illinois. Now this haunted attraction blew us away. In detail, scares and dead-on actors, the place was for sure one of the top rated in the nation! So it comes as no surprise that now, almost two years later, we have a chance to visit the attraction once more this weekend.

Nightmares Inc. decided to fabricate a haunted house using a new genre of haunt. One of old technology, dark, misdirecting and actor based scares carefully merged with that of new technology. High tech. animatronics, high detail and touching 4 of your 5 senses. The end result was Dream Reapers.

Dream Reapers Haunted House is over 14,000 SqFt. of sheer terror. With over 22 rooms, 40+ animatronics, over 40 actors and actresses and something rarely duplicated in the industry, scents based upon the theme of the room. And has wheelchair accessibility.

Dream Reapers was rated the #1 haunted house in Illinois for three years in a row. And continues to be one of the top rated events nationwide. Since there are only a few more days left until Halloween, this is a must-see if you are within driving distance or in the Illinois area. You can get some great deals online, like a Fast Pass, or discounts just for eating pizza and bringing in the labels! And if you just want to attend on a whim, it’s only a mere $16 bux to get in!

So if you want some sheer terror this Halloween, visit the Dreamreapers Haunted House in Illinois! And as they put it….“STAND BACK AND LET THE REAL PSYCHOS SHOW YOU HOW ITS DONE!”

The Uncle Zombie Show

There are many Horror Hosts out there, and very entertaining they are. From The Midnight Monster Hop, To Elvira, and many many others. Well here is a new twist, a Zombie as a host!

The Uncle Zombie Show is a new twist that has just debuted. They really utilize the mask they have purchased from a friend here at RFR, SPFX Masks and Rusty Slusser. Uncle Zombie has a good host persona, and his graceful speaking makes him even more funny. He decides to go on about the under appreciated Zombie and the mis-interpretation of Zombies all together.

This is the first episode to appear so far, so let’s see where this one goes. We for one think if Uncle Zombie progresses at a decent speed, he could stir up the undead airwaves.
