The sCare Foundation

This Halloween, the sCare Foundation will honor award-winning actress, Jamie Lee Curtis, with the 2011 Humanitarian Award at its inaugural fundraising event on October 30, 2011. An evening filled with entertainment, dancing and an exciting auction, the event will be held at the Conga Room L.A. “Jamie is the perfect recipient for this award,” said sCare Foundation founder Malek Akkad. “She is constantly giving back to the community through her work with children, AIDS charities and those in recovery. We are honored she will be joining us at our inaugural event.”

Jamie Lee Curtis landed her first role in John Carpenter’s Halloween. Since then, she has starred in such acclaimed films as Freaky Friday, True Lies, Trading Places and A Fish Called Wanda. Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Fright Fest Offers New Mazes, Scare Zones, Shows and Extended Park Hours Throughout October!

Six Flags Magic Mountain transforms from a “theme park” to a haunted “scream park” for its 19th season of Fright Fest, Southern California’s most thrilling Halloween experience. This season marks the biggest Fright Fest in the park’s history with four new scare zones, three new mazes, two new shows and extended park hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

Six Flag's Magic Mountain FRIGHT FEST

Six Flag's Magic Mountain FRIGHT FEST

Six Flags Magic Mountain offers 10 more days of terrifying haunted mazes, roaming zombies and spooky shows and is adding a “twisted” element to some of its monster coasters by turning off the lights, leaving riders to face their fears literally in the dark. And, the Fright Fest exclusive that coaster fanatics wait for all year … the transformation of one of the largest, most celebrated coasters in the world … Colossus runs backwards! Running the remaining three frightfully fun weekends, Fright Fest at Magic Mountain leaves no tombstone unturned, bringing guests the ultimate sensory overload for every range of fear. For the little monsters, a Trick or Treat Trail, Kid Scaryoke and Halloween Crafts round out the activities.

The newest and one of the largest mazes in Southern California is “The Aftermath,” where brave souls enter a post-apocalyptic city inhabited by nomad warriors and the dead stalk the living. Also new this year is “Chupacabra,” where guests come face to face with an elusive blood-thirsty creature as it terrorizes the local Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival, and “Cursed,” featuring roaming gypsies and werewolves. Returning mazes include the popular “BITE II,” where sexy and sinister werewolves are out for a bite in this nest of the undead; and “Lecter’s Slaughterhouse,” a family-run business specializing in tasty human treats.

Spooktacular shows include hypnotists Chris Maybre and Suzy Haner, who put park guests in compromising scenarios in their hilarious stage show located in Golden Bear Theater, and the new “Off With Your Head,” a Pop/Glam Rock musical spectacular featuring the music of Bon Jovi, Rihanna and Michael Jackson. Additionally, the comical freaks of the new “Dr. Fright’s CarnEvil” perform the hits of Guns n’ Roses, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga in front of DC UNIVERSE, and be sure to dust off your thriller moves and join in the fun as the popular “DJ Demonic” and “gRAVE” return to the same area.

Fright Fest hours at Six Flags Magic Mountain are from 10:30 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays and Monday, October 31.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is located at 26101 Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia, north of Los Angeles off Interstate 5 at the Magic Mountain Parkway exit. The Midwest Haunters Convention Needs You!

The Midwest Haunters Convention

The Midwest Haunters Convention

As we approach 2012, it is never too early to be thinking about the next Tradeshow, Convention, or Haunt Gathering. That is how us Haunters grow, learn, share information, and make our Pro Haunts, Home Haunts, Parties better every season.

Well, one of the best conventions is that event RFR has dubbed the “One Last Haunt Romp” is the Midwest Haunters Convention. And as they gear up for the 2012 Annual Event, they have some call outs for those Haunters, Pros and others in our Haunt Family.

To begin how about the education? Everyone loves the Education at MHC and they have a call out for speakers to share, educate and teach Haunters how to grow in specific areas of haunting.

Seminar Series at The Midwest Haunters Convention

Seminar Series at The Midwest Haunters Convention

“MHC is known for having the best educational offerings in the haunt industry. We start assembling the classes in November after the haunt season is over however it is not too early to start thinking about it. If you are interested in speaking, or have an idea for a class or a workshop, let us know! Just send an email to Barry@midwesthaunters.com
And moving forward from the education how about showing off your haunt stuff! Midwest Haunters is also looking for you to show off your Haunt Ride!

Many haunters deck out Hearses, Cars and more to place in front of their Haunted Attractions, drive in parades and more to promote their haunt. Well now you can show it off in 2012 to your fellow Haunt Peers.

MHC Annual Hearse Show

MHC Annual Hearse Show

“Show Off Your Ride in the custom car area of the 2011 trade show was a huge hit! It was so well received that we are going to expand it for 2012! Start making your plans now to bring your hearses and custom haunt cars to Columbus next June. On a related note, due to scheduling conflicts, we will be unable to offer the outdoor hearse parking for 2012.”

Finally, all conventions are made possible by the Haunters supporting the event! It is our Haunt Community that push conventions forward and make it so they can come back year after year. And the Midwest Haunters Convention Needs Your Support too!

Tradeshow Floor at MHC

Tradeshow Floor at MHC

“We Need Your help! Are there people at your haunt that have never been to MHC? Do you have makeup people and actors that would benefit from our seminars and workshops? Want to see more of your friends at MHC? Help us promote MHC by putting our cards in the makeup and dressings rooms of your haunts. Simple send your name and address to Kathy@midwesthaunters.com and we will get some out to you!”

So even though we are kicking off the Haunt Season, it is never too early to figure out how to grow in 2012. And you can always listen to the Archives of complete Coverage of the Midwest Haunters Convention on the Rotting Flesh Radio website at: www.RFRPodcast.com

A Ghoulish Delight: Limited ‘HATBOX’ Maquette to be Auctioned Off

Hatbox One of a Kind Maquette

Hatbox One of a Kind Maquette

A few weeks ago we mentioned how fans of the Haunted Mansion could enjoy the “Room for One More” event happening on September 30th at the Walt Disney World Resort. We discussed how Rotting Flesh Radio and also Fright Kingdom Haunted House were going to be in attendance at the event. (Click Here to Read the Initial Release on the Event).

Well in keeping with the love of all things spooky, from Haunted Attraction to the infamous HATBOX Ghost, we have caught wind that there will be an exclusive HATBOX GHOST up for auction at the event. This is a one-of-a-kind maquette of the figure that was created specifically for the auction.

It’s inspiration was taken from the classic Walt disney Records LP, “A Night in the Haunted Mansion” that all us fright freaks have grown up with! Recently one of the original Hitchhiking Ghosts was auctioned off at the D23 Expo in California and rumor was it was purchased by director Del Toro.

Kevin Kidney, Longtime Designer for disney and now a Self Employed Illustrator, Artist and more, has been approached by Disney to to this limited piece for the event.

Kevin and Jody's HATBOX Maquette

Kevin and Jody's HATBOX Maquette

I can say, that I will do my best to try to nab it for myself, but crossing my bloody limbs is all I can do in hopes for winning it at the auction.

Kevin and jody will be on hand to meet all of your Foolish Mortals at the event coming in under a week at the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World.

For more on the sculpture visit Kevin’s site at: www.miehana.blogspot.com

OFFICIAL RELEASE ON THE AUCTION HATBOX PIECE FROM KEVIN’S SITE:
“Jody and I will be traveling to Walt Disney World for the resort’s 40th anniversary on October 1, and Disney asked if we might create something special for a Haunted Mansion themed auction that takes place the night before, on September 30th. We decided on a unique interpretation of the Hatbox Ghost – a one-of-a-kind maquette based on artist Collin Campbell’s original painting for the famous 1969 Disneyland Record, “The Story and Song from The Haunted Mansion.”

“For decades, old Hattie’s legend was kept alive for thousands of kids lucky enough to own a copy of this LP, with its “magnificent full-color illustrated book.” There was (and still is) something deliciously disturbing and exciting about Collin Campbell’s illustrations, and the very best page was the the one that showed “a cloaked man whose head disappears from his body and glows hideously from within a hat box.”

As far as we know, we’ve never seen a three-dimensional figure based on Campbell’s Haunted Mansion illustrations, so this may very well be the first. Our 8-1/4″ tall ghost was cast from my sculpture and then hand-painted by Jody in Campbell’s illustrative style, with “hair” fibers added on as a final touch. The maquette is displayed on a wooden base made of antique weathered barn wood, under a glass bell jar. When viewed through the wavy glass, the figure takes on a mildly distorted appearance that makes him even more ghostly.”
