Small Town Halloween Festivals Still Exist

September 18, 2009 Halloween, Haunt Industry No Comments

In a world full of being PC, eliminating Christmas, Easter and even Halloween from most social events, but in some areas you can still find small town fun. Just think back to the OTR days of Father Knows Best or Disney’s Hocus Pocus, the small town Halloween.

Well, oddly enough, the Rotting Flesh Radio Studios is just a 15 min walk away from the Annual Cedarburg, Wine and Harvest Halloween Festival. THis Annual event have everything you Vintage Halloween Enthusiasts will enjoy, from Pumpkin Carving, Painting, Corn Stalks, Wine Stomping and Grape Spitting Contests, Scarecrow Competitions, Halloween Vintage Vendors and more. It is always a blast for the old school Halloween Fun. I know The Mortician and RFR will be there wandering around this weekend and it will bring that glimpse of Halloween back to a Community that Embraces it, Celebrates it and you remember what it was like before everyone being “PC” about everything. We will make sure to post Photos next week with a weekend recap.

CEDARBURG, WI:
Spend a sweet, end-of-summer weekend in the country in Historic Cedarburg during Wine & Harvest Festival, Saturday, September 19 from 10-6 & Sunday, September 20 from 10-5. Both the abundance of Wisconsin’s homegrown produce and artisan food products plus the award-winning wines of Cedar Creek Winery are what initiated this 37th annual free, family-oriented event.

The many and varied Festival Food Booths feature steamed corn, caramel apples, caramel apple pie squares, kettle corn, apple cider, homemade ice cream, turkey legs, brats, burgers, grilled foods and savory/sweet delights. The Farmer’s Market brims with seasonal fruits and vegetables, flowers and plants, herbs and apples. At Cedar Creek Winery booths you’ll find wine by the glass. Locally produced foodstuffs such as honey, syrup, cheese, sausage and jellies are in the Marketplace.

Festival fans can kick back and listen to Live Music all over town, featuring Top Forty, Bluegrass, Folk and Rock & Roll bands, including Bobby Way & Wayout, Hat Trick & Dusk. The Scarecrow Contest is a seasonal favorite with dozens of winsome and whimsical hand-made straw-stuffed characters on display throughout the historic district. For a quick shuttle around town, hop aboard a tractor-drawn hayride wagon.

Last year the Great Pumpkin Charity Regatta was so much fun we’re doing it again, sponsored by LaCroix. The 2008 event was a youtube favorite with gigantic, hollowed-out, floatable pumpkins, piloted by intrepid paddlers’ attempting to race across Cedar Creek. The festival’s Henry’s Kids Korner activities will encompass a variety of activities geared for children, including Pumpkin Painting. At The Shops of Cedar Creek Settlement, the Winery’s hilarious Grape Stomp is a daily crowd-pleaser with the Kid’s Stomp and the Adult’s Stomp. Other competitions include Grape Spitting and Apple Bobbing daily and families will delight in the enchanting Scarecrow Sculpture Garden.

Come join us for fall fun in Historic Cedarburg, just 20 minutes north of Milwaukee.
